How Avant-Garde Robots will Help us Survive this Century

In this colorful and fast-moving TEDx talk David takes us on a journey through his evolution as an activist, artist, anti-technologist, then engineer. From rioting against the ‘enforced industrial technology’ of the 1990’s, to a light-bulb moment from his mother’s diagnosis of Parkinson’s, and a fascination with the power of motion to trigger emotion, David demonstrates a different way to connect to, and think about humanity, creativity and technology.

He introduces Rusty Squid (http://rustysquid.com), a pioneering ensemble of artists, engineers, designers and scientists based in Bristol, UK who are hijacking robotic technology as a form of human expression and cultural intervention. He thinks their maverick methodologies could, “give birth to an entirely new creative industry that may well define this Century”.
